Recently, I wrote about 3 steps to finding the perfect web host for your business. With so many hosting companies, it's hard to know where to start. I recommend taking a look at the article, which goes over the different options and questions to ask. I started writing basic websites when I was in college in 1995 when the World Wide Web was in its infancy. However, it wasn't until 2000 that I bought my first domain names and dabbled in the world of creating and hosting my own website. I went with a small Scottish hosting company called X Calibre. I had a very good experience with them to start with - they had good customer service and went out of their way to help newbies like me. I initially started with basic shared hosting, but after founding my company, Select Performers Internet Solutions, with my dad, it didn't take long to employee data upgrade to a reseller account and then a dedicated server. Unfortunately, XCalibre sold its web hosting division to Web Fusion to focus on its cloud services product, Flexiant. That's when it all fell apart. I'll spare you the bloody story, but suffice it to say that the moment our dedicated server died following a fire alarm in the Web Fusion data center was the least of our worries! We had invested so much in the setup we had with Caliber, that switching to another hosting provider was always going to be a difficult task. After extensive research, we came up with three possibilities and contacted them all. We decided to take the plunge and switch to Clook Internet after a very helpful conversation with the General Manager. This was a long process for us, as it involved updating pretty much every page on every website we run.
